Principal Partners

Andy Holloway P.Eng., CEng.
Principal Process Engineer

A Principal Process Engineer with over 25 years of experience in minerals processing, Andy has a solid record of achievement that spans several continents. Andy has experience in operational plant management, process plant design and engineering, metallurgical testwork, project management, and plant commissioning and optimization. His diverse and balanced career provides AGP with an excellent combination of theoretical process knowledge and real world operational experience.

Before joining AGP, Andy directed the Canadian branch of DRA, an international project house specializing in mineral processing plant design, construction and operation. In this capacity Andy was responsible for all North American business, including northern projects in Nunavut, Canada, while also acting as metallurgical consulting and project manager on all of DRA's international projects, in locations such as South Africa and Zimbabwe, Finland, Greenland, Guyana, Russia, and Saudi Arabia.

Andy's key skills lie in the areas of metallurgical development, process engineering, and plant commissioning. These skills, in conjunction with his proven communication and management capabilities, make him an invaluable member of the AGP team.

Gordon Zurowski P.Eng.
Principal Mining Engineer

As AGP's Principal Mine Engineer, Gordon is recognized as an industry expert in mining projects around the world, with particular skills in open pit mining projects and financial evaluations. With more than 25 years of practical experience in both mine operations and consulting, Gordon has honed skills for the development of economic pits, mine scheduling, equipment selection, capital cost estimating, and operational audits. He has participated as both a team member and leader in the production of NI 43-101 compliant preliminary economic assessments, and prefeasibility and feasibility studies.

Gordon has worked on a broad scope of international mining projects in areas such as South America, Africa, Russia, Indonesia, Mongolia, Mexico, and Romania, as well as numerous Canadian and American projects. Gordon's international experience, particularly in Mexico and South America, is further supported by his ability to work in Spanish. Gordon's open- minded approach and enthusiasm is evident in all the work he does providing our clients varied viable and economical approaches to their project challenges.

Jay Melnyk P.Eng.
Principal Mine Engineer

With more than 25 years of international and domestic mining engineering experience, predominantly in open-pit mines, with additional underground and exploration experience, Jay Melnyk is recognized as an expert in pit optimization, pit phase design, mine scheduling, equipment selection, cost estimating, project management, resource modelling, and construction management.

Jay is skilled in the use of MineSightTM and Whittle, and has authored and co-signed a number of NI 43-101 reports. Jay has a basic knowledge of Spanish.

Geoff Challiner C.Eng.
Chief Underground Mine Engineer

With over 35 years of experience in Mining Engineering and Operations, Geoff brings a very seasoned and proven set of skills to our AGP project teams. Although Geoff is an underground mining specialist, he has working knowledge of open pit operations. Geoff has undertaken numerous feasibility study and project management assignments over the course of his career, and has led numerous study and audit teams on behalf of mining companies and financial institutions at mines around the world. Geoff offers a practical and experienced set of skills in mine design, planning and costing, and mine performance analysis. He is widely respected for his recommendations for improvements to mining methods, cost/benefit analysis, and detailed financial analyses of company cash flow projections and overall financing. Geoff has led negotiations with governments, contractors, and suppliers, and has acted as a co-signatory for a number of Competent Persons and Canadian NI 43-101 reports.

Ryan McMahon B.Sc.
Senior Associate Mine Engineer

With over 28 years of experience specializing in underground mine planning, design, and operations, Ryan McMahon is well recognized as a Senior Mining Engineering Specialist, making him a valuable asset on all AGP projects that include an underground component. Ryan has worked on major projects in Canada, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Sweden, and Mexico, and has held senior positions with several large companies. Ryan is proficient in mine planning, design, and scheduling, and provides peer review on numerous NI 43-101 compliant reports.

Willie Hamilton P.Eng.

Willie Hamilton is a Senior Mining Engineer with 25 years of mine operations and consulting experience. Proficient in surface mine planning, reserve estimation and financial analysis, Willie is a team player with strong interpersonal and communications skills acquired through previous roles in the mining industry. Willie has provided due diligence and engineering support for both North American and international projects. An experienced mine planning software user, most recently with MineSightTM applications, allows Willie to troubleshoot issues and develop quick solutions. Willie is an effective team leader and mentor and is currently a CIM Peer Reviewer for Surface Mining papers. As an Associate of AGP, Willie brings a broad range of experience to the team, which is fuelled by his many accomplishments, such as:

  • leading a large mining team during successful advancement through the PFS stage gate
  • completing various mine plan and evaluation scenarios to support a major SAG mill expansion at a gold mine in Brazil
  • leading open pit studies for the opening of a mine in Ontario
  • managing truck dispatch systems at operating mines
  • integrating mine planning with real-time systems allowing the conversion to a cost-effective dispatcher-less system, as well as the safe evacuation of personnel and equipment in advance of a large pit wall failure.

Clement Yeung P.Eng.

Clement Yeung is a Senior Mining Engineer with over 20 years of underground and open pit mining experience in worldwide operations. Clement has held technical and commercial roles, particularly in the explosives industry, and has brought his expertise in operations, due diligence, and consulting studies at various levels in accordance with NI 43-101 standards to his work on different projects around the world. His engineering and planning services work for projects has included mine planning, estimating, dewatering, explosives, financials, and optimization.

Clement holds a Six Sigma Green Belt Certification and provides support under a Six Sigma Black Belt, analyzing and solving quality problems and working on quality improvement projects. He is also qualified in Incident Cause Analysis Method (ICAM) investigations.

Freddy BravoP.Eng.

Freddy Bravo is a Senior Mining Engineer with over 15 years of practical experience in both mining operations and consulting, specializing in open pit, mine design and planning, ore resource and reserve evaluation, and economic analysis. Freddy has worked on different projects in Canada, U.S.A., South America, and Africa, and has held senior positions with several mining companies. An enthusiastic customer-driven leader, Freddy effectively uses his expertise in MineSightTM, M24D, Ventsim, Minescape, and Minecad to advance client projects. As a specialist in other mining optimization tools, such as MineSight's Scheduler Optimizer and MS Haulage, Freddy is able to quickly assess client needs.

As a Senior Mine Engineer with AGP, Freddy works as the lead mining engineer on various projects, and provides peer reviews on NI 43-101 compliant reports and technical assistance to many of AGP's clients.

Senior Associates - Geology

Pierre Desautels P.Geo.

Pierre Desautels is the Principal Resource Geologist at AGP. Pierre has over 29 years of experience in geology and resource evaluation, both at operating mines and as a consultant for emerging mining opportunities in Canada and around the world.

Pierre's strong knowledge of gold, molybdenum, and base metal deposit geology, coupled with his expertise in Gemcom resource modelling software, makes him a valuable and knowledgeable contributor to any project team. Pierre is fluent in French and English.

Paul Daigle P.Geo.

Paul Daigle is a senior Resource Geologist with over 25 years of progressive experience in evaluating and developing mineral exploration and mining projects worldwide. He is skilled in project management, team building, and problem solving. Paul has extended experience in geostatistics and resource estimation and is skilled in the use of Geovia GEMSTM and Sage 2001. As an Associate of AGP, Paul has worked on a variety of open pit and underground projects ranging from order of magnitude to feasibility studies. Paul is fluent in English, French, and Spanish and has a basic knowledge of Portuguese.

Senior Associates - Project Management

Justin Taylor P.Eng.

Justin Taylor is a Senior Mechanical Engineer and Project Manager with over 15 years of experience in industries associated with large scale multi- disciplinary capital engineering projects in the chemicals and minerals processing industry. His extensive background covers international projects in Canada, Mexico, Brazil, South Africa, Angola and Kazakhstan.

Justin is a driven self-starter with strong written and oral communications skills and superior organizational abilities required for this type of work, skills that he successfully has implemented in many projects.

Senior Associates - Process & Metallurgy

Lyn Jones M.A.Sc., P.Eng.

Lyn Jones is a Senior Associate Process Metallurgist with over 17 years of progressive experience in mineral processing and hydrometallurgy at the bench scale, pilot plant, and process plant level. Lyn has extensive knowledge of metallurgical process flowsheet development, including grinding, dense media separation, froth flotation, cyanidation, pressure oxidation, electrowinning, and mineralogical characterization.

Skilled in AutoCAD, Alibre Design, and PLC programming, as well as having completed courses in Project Management, Process Control, and Measurement Systems Analysis, Lyn's key skills lie in study management, metallurgical flowsheet development, process engineering, cost estimation, process control, and plant commissioning.

Oliver Peters P.Eng.

Oliver Peters is a Senior Process Engineer with over 17 years of experience in the minerals processing industry, his has a background in process plant design, project management, procurement, and commissioning on an international scale. Prior to working with AGP Mining, Oliver worked as Senior Metallurgist at DRA in Peterborough and at Falconbridge's Technology Centre in Sudbury, managing strategic mineral processing projects in the Process Mineralogy group. Oliver's key skills lie in the areas of metallurgy, process engineering, process mineralogy, and project planning.

Michael Mason BASc., MBA

Markets, smelter terms, and projected metal prices are critical economic inputs to any successful mining study. To ensure the highest level of accuracy possible, AGP Mining Consultants calls upon the services of Michael Mason, a leading expert in world metal markets and smelter terms. More than 40 years of experience has provided him with the knowledge and contacts to accurately estimate smelter terms and world metal markets to the level of accuracy each study requires. Michael also has expertise in logistics and commercial operations associated with material flows and process facilities. Michael's participation in these key areas provides our clients with confidence in the accuracy and viability of their projects.
